Michel YAKOVLEV, known as YAKO was born in New York in 1963, he grew up in Geneva where he made his first graffiti and his first exhibitions in the 80 ‘, at a time when this culture was not elevated to the current rank but decidedly underground and provocative … By tradition and family culture he meets painting very early and even receives the encouragement of Marc Chagall at the age of 12 years. Chagall to whom he declares he wants to be a painter and an architect … Graduate Architect at the School of Architecture of Grenoble in 1988, YAKO came to live in the Paris region since 1992. Throughout the ’90s YAKO is mainly devoted to his artistic production, he realizes public commissions, produces personal exhibitions and participates in cultural events. This period of creation offers him the opportunity to practice techniques such as stained glass, ceramics or welding. In the ’90s, YAKO made sail for the boat of Thierry Dubois who will run the Vendée Globe 97 with this one. He created 80 flags / stained glass to adorn the old center of SAINT TROPEZ. He performs performances such as this parade of clothes painted in shower baths in 96. He responds to public commissions to create works of art in schools, leisure centers. YAKO also creates objects, clothes, furniture, and dishes. Installed in the Yvelines at THIVERVAL GRIGNON for 10 years, MICHEL YAKOVLEV is developing his architecture agency there, he carries out most of the classic projects: collective dwellings, individual houses and commercial establishments … YAKO has always aimed to associate its two activities by integrating its artistic production into public or private construction projects. YAKO has exhibited in group shows and galleries in Geneva, Grenoble, Saint-Tropez, Ré, Paris. His characters, with their simple and meaningful physiognomy, tend to universality. His plastic vocabulary pays tribute to painting and its history. The major themes of painting; portraits, “dead” natures, landscapes, nudes.
