Jean Poulain 1884-1967 Jean Poulain was born in 1884 in Katanga (formerly Belgian Congo). The self-taught artist from an early age, he will be in search of all the emotions and beauty of Africa. His love and passion for drawing are amazing. In 1904, he decided to leave the family nucleus to jump and experienced the wonders of Africa. He will explore and all the territory of Congo, which is still at the time the property of King Leopold II of Belgium. In 1912 he participated in the discovery of the African continent. It is, then, the explosion of his life. He became a bulimic observer, every nook and cranny is sketched and sketched. From 1920, he turns to a painter and especially as an animal painter. He hands, then with his wife in search of large savannah animals capturing them in their closest attitudes of reality. They travel vast African countries together as Tanzania, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Ethiopia, South Africa, and many other countries.
